With thanks to Rose Simpson for kindly providing this information.
The WIGS conference will be held in the Medrus conference suite in the Penbryn Building, which is near the entrance to the campus and near to a bus stop which will take you into town. It is, however, often quicker to walk than wait. Buses are reasonably frequent during term and the bus journey is 5-10 minutes dependent on traffic. Walking from campus to town is downhill and takes about 15 minutes, or less if you hurry. From town to campus is uphill so that time depends very much on the individual. Taxis run from the train station, which is by the bus station, and cost under £5.
In order to make the conference as economically viable for PG students as possible, we have, in the past, suggested that you consider sharing a room with another WIGS member for the duration of the conference. If you are a PG student interested in sharing a room but cannot find a roommate, please contact the WIGS PG representative, Cyd Sturgess (email@example.com). Cyd is collating a list in order to put PGs in touch with one another and make room sharing easier. Please ensure you contact Cyd at your earliest convenience to make sure it is possible to find you a roommate.
There are many hotels and B&Bs around Aberystwyth of varying prices but all are in the town itself so the above information on transport is relevant. A quick look on booking.com (or any other booking site) and its associated maps will show you possibilities and locations in relation to the Penglais University Campus. Buses pass university halls situated on Marine Terrace to North Parade and the bus station, all within a 5 minute radius, so that area is preferable. Various walking routes to the campus can be pleasant if the weather is good.
Accommodation on campus is always dependent on student numbers. Please contact the Conference Office at firstname.lastname@example.org or on 01970 621960 who may be able to assist you with availability for the conference dates.
Please contact Rose Simpson at email@example.com if you have other questions. Aberystwyth is a generally small, friendly, informal and very safe environment and comparatively easy to negotiate.
