Reminder: WIGS Committee Vacancies (Secretary and Postgraduate Representative)

A reminder about the upcoming deadline (28 February) for expressions of interest in WIGS committee vacancies for the positions of Secretary and PG rep.

A couple of WIGS committee terms of office are ending at the same time, as a result of which we are advertising the following committee vacancies: Secretary and Postgraduate Representative (please see below for details). This is an excellent opportunity to hold a position of responsibility in a national professional organisation of over thirty years’ standing, where you will be supported by a dedicated and cooperative team of colleagues on the WIGS committee. All committee roles are voluntary. Travel expenses are paid to WIGS meetings, and reasonable accommodation costs may also be covered, depending on circumstances.

Secretary

WIGS is seeking to appoint a new Secretary for a three-year term.

The role involves supporting and promoting Women in German Studies (WIGS) in all of its activities. Tasks as Secretary include, but are not limited to: working with the WIGS committee to support local organisers in the organisation of the WIGS annual conference; administering the WIGS Book Prize and WIGS Postgraduate Essay Prize competitions; promoting the society’s activities to our membership and beyond via email, blogging and social media; editing the society’s annual newsletter; responding to day-to-day queries from our members and beyond; representing WIGS at subject associations meetings as required; preparing agenda and minutes of meetings.

Candidates should ideally be able to attend both this year’s conference preparatory meeting in Dublin on 25 May and the forthcoming WIGS annual conference at University College Dublin on 8-9 November.

Expressions of interest in the role should be sent to WIGS Chair, Ingrid Sharp (I.E.Sharp@leeds.ac.uk), by 28 February 2019. Informal inquiries can be made to any member of the WIGS committee, including the outgoing Secretary, Katya Krylova (katya.krylova@abdn.ac.uk).

Postgraduate Representative

Interested in playing an active role in Women in German Studies? We have a vacancy on our committee for a Postgraduate Representative. If you are a postgraduate member of WIGS who has great ideas for bringing fellow postgraduates together, helping them to make their research more visible and providing them with support for their future careers, then apply for this rewarding position. You’ll get to build your networks, work with a supportive committee team, try out your own ideas, gain experience in organising workshops and help maintain our online and social media presence. Ideally you will have some experience of managing a blog, but you’ll get all the support you might need. Candidates should ideally be able to attend both this year’s conference preparatory meeting in Dublin on 25 May and the forthcoming WIGS annual conference at University College Dublin on 8-9 November.

For more information about the role, contact the outgoing Postgraduate Representative, Mary Frank: mf1876@my.bristol.ac.uk

Expressions of interest should be sent by 28 February 2019 to WIGS Secretary Katya Krylova: katya.krylova@abdn.ac.uk
